When I think of lost things, I think of the recipes I never asked my grandmother to write down, and the stories about her parents I never asked her to tell me, and about all the people in the world who never asked their grandmothers, and the grandmothers who never asked their grandmothers, and then all the things no one ever asked their grandfathers, and then about how there are things we never even thought to ask a friend about. Or a neighbor about. Or our child or partner about. How would I ever be able to ask all the questions to everyone about the little things that form masterpieces in their lives? Every human who has ever lived is full of lost masterpieces and lesser works. I love the comment that time isn't linear, and that we can feel all these losses as things that exist somewhere, or could exist.

I have personally been obsessed with the scrolls that were destroyed when the Library at Alexandria was burned .. imagine the poetry , plays and scientific writings . It boggles the mind.
